Default Cam and Heads install

My cam came in TSP 228R with push rods and 918 springs, I got the 918 comp springs (can I use the stock retainers?). I bought the basic install kit plus crank bolt.

Now I have a set of stock LS6 heads and LS6 intake to install also. What gaskets will I need? Can I just use stock size GM gaskets? Do I need to go with larger injectors?

The car is not a DD and it wont see any track time.

Thanks

If you have a 2002 C5 you already have an LS6 intake.

I wouldnt put bigger injectors in unless you are tuning right after the install.

with that package you should'nt need bigger injectors.

Normal MLS head gaskets are fine.

You didnt get a full spring kit? retainers, seals, seats? just the springs?
Should (might) be ok, but would be better to do the whole set at once. How is your stomach going to feel if, once you get it all back together, it smokes or ticks? Do it now...

do you have a new oil pump? timing chain?

you'll need front end gaskets.

While you have the front end apart, may as well go with an underdrive pulley.

good luck and have fun.

When you say LS6 heads, I assume these have the light valves as well. Are the heads new or used?

Only came with the springs and nothing else who sells the rest on a kit price?
I have a new LS6 oil pump and LS2 chain, I have the basic cam install kit with all the gaskets needed for that, but nothing for the heads and intake.

If I were you (and I was a year ago when I did basically the same thing to my car ) I would take those heads to you favorite machine shop along with the new springs and have a valve job performed and also mill a bit off of them. I had mine done.020 to be conservative. I could have gone more but was nervous about ptv issues. The machine shop will also install the new springs at the correct height so no guessing. I spent 400 on that work. After my install of similar cam and ls6 intake along with Dynatec header ud pullry etc I dynoed at 399 hp on a Mustang dyno at a local tuners shop. (Slowhawk Performance). He said my injectors were maxed out but would work. I picked up some flow matched SVO 30lb injectors but haven't gotten around to installing them yet. Car runs great and is a whole lot more fun to drive. Good luck with your install. By the way if you do mill the heads you must measure and install shorter pushrods. I had already bought 7.4's and sold them readily on here for like 20 bucks less than I paid for them.

Ls6 z06 heads had lighter exhaust valves but same casting# 243 as later ls2 heads. Mine are just ls2 heads. I been told and read while the lighter valves are nice from a reliability standpoint there really aren't much of a hp gain. If you have them great if not I wouldn't worry about it.

When you start to remove the head bolts, wear gloves, I have scars on two fingers were the socket slipped and i punched the head. Blood everywhere.
