Default Need your 2 cents on this...

Ok, so i am sure we have all seen the "how will this set-up work on my car" threads 100 times over but i gotta post one more of them. So here we go.

I have an 02 MN6 coupe, Kooks long tubes,highflow cats,x-pipe,GHL setup at the end,Varraram.

Looking to do a cam, intake and head work. I was looking in to the Fast 92mm intake and Thunder Racing Cheatr v.3 cam. The specs on the cam are as follows: 219/230 .607/.604 117 LSA. I also want to keep the stock heads, maybe port and polish them. So these are the parts i am looking to work with. The questions are as follows:

Has anyone run this cam? If so, with Full exhaust and whats your experience?

Will this cam work alright with the Fast 92mm intake and ported and polished stock heads?

This car is not my daily, but i want to keep it streetable, thats why i am looking into this type of cam. The car right now makes around 350hp to the wheels. What are the odds i should be up around or past the 400rwhp marker?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some advice.

Fast 92 might be overkill with a cheater cam and ported stock heads, but I could be wrong. That's my .02...

You should be there or really close. The bigger the cam the better the FAST is going to work. I run a 237/242 .609(MS3) and made 413wheel and 396tq on stock 241 heads. Then I added a FAST 92 and its a very big jump. If it was me I would put a little bit bigger cam in it and you will be well over 400 wheel. Good luck with the search. Check out Texas-Speed cams they have some very good ones.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not married to the Cheatr cam, but i liked the broad powerband it had and the 117 lsa was nice. i would like to keep it some what "sleeper" but then again, not my top priority. How lumpy is that MS3 cam? i think its a 114 lobe seperation, right?

There's alot of cams that're in between the "Cheater" and the MS3. Some even that'll perform better than a "Cheater", and still be plenty stealthy, if that's your preference.

Definatley got the point across! Sounds nasty you definatley pegged it with the "why try me" comment.

I guess its my preference. To be honest, i really don't know what my preference is. I suppose top priority is to get more out of the car and keep it pleasant enough to drive around. Don't want to make a car that is just for the track. Also, as much as i like running the quarter, i like the top end too. So i suppose if i can find a cam that runs somewhat like the stock cams characteristics just with way more ***** i'd be pleased. The least of my concerns is, sound. But if i can i'd like to keep it less choppy. i hope that makes sense.

If you could suggest a few more cams between the cheatr and ms3 i'd be much obliged.

I've heard good things about LG's G5X1-E used as a "cheater". The "E" stands for emissions, meaning your car will still pass a smog test.

OK, fair enough.... You don't want a MS3 based on this. A really great performance cam with almost perfect street manners would be the "Tony Mamo" cam, which specs@ 224-228 @114 and around .585 lift. This will be easy to drive, and tune, and will still have a nice little lope. Just enough to tell you it's cammed. Another choice would be a little more duration, but with the LSA around 116, will be very stealthy....I'd say 228-234, with a fairly spring friendly .570 lift. Probably a custom grind, but that's no big deal. Either way, it's time to upgrade the valvesprings, and maybe mill your heads for more compression. Having your heads CNC'd is a great idea, but you don't want them "polished". There's several "budget" heads available that're based on 243 castings that'd probably be not alot more cash, and you can order them all setup with good springs already.

I have a TPIS 11x cam in my 99 auto convertible. The torque curve starts at 2900 thru 6000 above 400# torque with a max of around 430 depending on weather.(humidity) Check my sig for the idle run. I show my car more than race it but I do enjoy going to the strip every once in a while.

I was looking around and found this on Texas-speeds website. http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=203&catid=47

I figure if i am going to spend the money and the heads will have to come off anyway to get ported, why not upgrade.I was also thinking of going with their 233/239, .595"/.603" 114lsa cam with this package. Seems to be a step down from the MS3. So i am thinking the whole sleeper idea is out the window, but again, not on the top of my priorities. I just hope this cam has some street manors, because i am pretty sure it'll have the ***** im after. I am also going to get the ported ls6 oil pump and double roller timing chain. I think that'll cover me. Any other suggestions?
