I have a 99 Hardtop and i believe the clutch is wearing out. I was at Mid-Ohio last August and was having to do a lot of stop and go. I notice a smell and that the clutch did not seem to engage to the gears very well. However, When i drive it regularly I really don't have a problem.
Can anyone explain what is exactly going on and if that is pretty much a clutch replacement in the near future. Also what does that usually run.

Sounds like you need a new clutch. What kind of mileage are you at? The big part of your question is price. Mine ran about $800. with me doing all the work. But I added stuff and upgraded stuff. So I'd guess you could trim a couple hundred off the 8 if you wanted. On the other end of the scale it can run a couple grand. You have to decide what you want to do. The good news is you have time to start collecting the parts and pieces you need so the cost can get spread out.
I have about 85000+ miles. I cannot imagine doing the work myself. I would love however to be in the position to work with someone who knew what they were doing and learn from they. I enjoy learning that kind of stuff.
Also, Is it better to get the parts and let someone do it or let the place doing the job get the parts. If I get the parts where do you recommend and what parts.
