I attempted the DIY solder fix for dim illumation on the my hvac and fried the circuit board.

It functions, i.e I can turn on / off the AC / heater / defrost but the display is all jazzed up. I am getting an orange display screen and killed a couple of the bulbs.

I used way too much heat on my soldering iron. I think I also hit one of the big chips.

Anyway, where can I get replacement dash unit? My vette is a 2001 C5 Coupe with the digital / dual zone control.

Please advise.

By the way, this was an outcome of working on the Vette at 3am. After successfully hooking up my new audio mod, I was feeling aggressive and wanted to try the hvac mod.

The lesson here is that using a soldering iron needs training first and knowing that too much heat is a bad thing. Not dumping on you, its happened to all of us and especially those of us who learned how to use one. Cooked a few things in my many years, says I.

 

okay, found this guy on EBay. Looks like he will sell a rebuilt unit for $100 in exchange for my dead unit.

I am going to call him tomorrow.
