From the service manual:

DIC Onboard Diagnostics Show DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 in History #PI00043 - (Jun 19, 2002)
DIC Onboard Diagnostics Show DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 in History
.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:
DTCs U1016, U1064 and U1096 may be present when scrolling through the onboard diagnostics via the instrument cluster Driver Information Center (DIC).

Recommendation/Instructions:
This is a normal software function as long as the DTCs have a history status upon ignition cycling. No repair attempts should be made.

BINGO! Right on the mark!

I recommend clearing them and that way, you will know if your power or comms issue is fixed.

Connecting the battery or a weak/discharged battery will sometimes cause those DTCs. If your battery is old, when you cold crank the engine, the B+ voltage will drop LOW (around 9 VDC) and set the same DTCs.

Im expierencing this same issue with my wifes C6. If you think a C5 is sensitive to low battery voltage,,,you should see what happens on a C6. The instrument Cluster goes NUTS!

Default Wife's C6?

Bill,

If you ever decide to sell your C5 and move up, please let us know in advance. I'm sure there are many, mostly silent, readers like me, that count on your C5 posts to fix our problems. If you sell, I'm selling. Your contributions are that good.

Have you ever seen someone standing along side the road next to their car with jumper cables attached to their battery and they are holding the jumper cables out as the cars pass by as "PLEASE STOP AND GIVE ME A BOOST!"

If this welding thing doesn't work,,, that will be me except, I will have a TOW STRAP attached to my K member!

STARTER??? We don't need no stinking STARTER!
