When I bought my car this winter. The guy I bought it from told me then a/c belt was dry rotted and squealing so he just cut it off. well its fianlly getting warm so I replace the belt and it squeals a little idling and really squeals when I rev it. when I press the a/c button it flashes six times doesnt turn on no cold air at all. anyone have any ideas ?
First thing to check is what is the outside air temperature displaying on the ac unit? Is it the correct temperature? or does it say something like 30 degrees ?
IF this is the case you may have a corroded outside air temp sensor that is easy to change out so that the ac unit will work.
If this is not the issue then i would try to recharge the ac.
The squeeling is often caused by a defective ac tensioner bracket. He most likely cut the belt so you would not hear the noise. It is also a simple replacement.
temp on the display is correct. How do I know if its the bracket? would the button blink and ac not turn on just becasuse it needs to be recharged? any other ideas before I go spend $300 on a compressor?

The bracket that mounts the ac tensioner pulley can cause the squeeking.
The flashing ac light if it is not the outside air temp then next step is a recharge kit from your local part store.
Be sure to follow the directions on the recharge kit. You do not want to hold the can upside for a long period and over fill the compressor
UPDATE: replaced the squealing belt with a better brand, that stopped the squealing but was still flashing checked compressor, no freon so recharged it working fine flashing stoppped. so FYI No freon will make your ac light flash. thanks for your posts
I got a dye kit and searched all thru the engine bay I can't find a leak anywhere and it has to be a big leak cause after I charged it it only lasted three days where else should I look

Quick question, is your oil pressure sending unit broken? The reason I ask is that I thought I read in the manual that oil temp and other things have an effect on the a/c.

I have a service manual...what section is that in? ....I'd like to read more about it.....
I don't see how the oil pressure unit will make the compressor lose freon ?
I'm not saying it will make the compressor lose freon, I think it was linked with the operation of the a/c. If I'm wrong I'll let you know. When I get home tonight I'll check.
