Default C5 Drag Wheel and Tire

Can somebody steer me in the right direction. I have plans to take my Vette to the track this year and really don't want to use my street tires on the strip.

Any recommendations on a drag wheel and tire combo C5 M6?

Current mods:

- 3.73 diff
- LG Super Pro Headers
- Vararam CAI

Man...you guys are killing me here. Maybe something a little more entry level. I'm really looking for a set on the rears.

I'm seeing CCW drag packs used anywhere between ~$1500-$2500.

Once I get accustomed to drag racing , be more serious about it, and get more horsepower, then I'll invest into a good set.

With aprox. 400 RWHP, Which of these two different tires would be best, just for the strip?. Also , would one over the other be easier on the rear end? (flex w/ sidewall)

I think either one will work equally well. Just don't do any 6000rpm clutch dumps and your rear end should be ok!

NOT the hoosiers. go with the mickeys etc.

i know two guys with 650rwhp and 800rwhp respectively, and both ahve had the hoosiers. they both say they stick like hell when brand new, unbelievably good. but as soon as you spin them over on the street it doesnt matter if you heat them up or what after they never come even close again. (theories why have to do with the texture the tire takes on after being mowed over on regular pavement)

run the mickeys if your just lookin for somethin to use at the track.

c5mtl,

I just purchased a full set of wagon wheels from 1149mrm. I've checked 275/40/17 Streets on Mickey Thompsons website, and there recommended wheel size is 9.0-11.0. Is it still ok on a 8.5" wheel?

Ok I found the answer to my question just by doing a quick search and seeing what everyone is running. MT 275/40/17 ET Streets will fit fine on the front wagon wheels without any problems.

I will also have the rears wheels to utilize too and can run MT 305/45/18 ET Streets II.

If you guys had a choice with running either 17" or 18" wagon wheels with those MT Tires, which would you choose? Why?

the 305/45 is a very tall tire (almost 29") you are better off with the 275 (26" tall) this will match your gears better. Plus the extra sidewall on a drag radial helps absorb the shock and minimize damage to the rear end
