Yes, those appear to be stock springs. You do know it is not necessary to pull the heads to swap the springs....right?

Right, I don't plan to pull the heads. I am unsure of how to keep the lifters above the cam, though. 16 magnetic pens?

I see what you are saying...the picture of the kit does not match the description. The pictures shows intake & head gaskets, but the kit doesn't actually include them.

this is discussed often if you search....most use metal rods or dowels.....

Alright, guys, I am on the fence about this cam swap. My '02 Z06 is all stock and has the broken valve spring listed in this post set. With 85,000 miles, am I crazy to not go ahead with a timing chain and oil pump replacement along with a cam swap? I don't necessarily need more HP, but if people claim that the chain is due to fail, I think I should go ahead and replace it, which leads to the cam/pump swap.
What do you think? Am I looking down the barrel of a loaded gun not going ahead with the chain replacement?

Don't let forum members spend your money.....

If you are happy with the way the car runs, and feel the HP is adequate......then leave the cam alone. How soon the chain will meet it's demise has a lot to do with how you drive the car. There is a huge difference between a street driven car, and one that does auto-xing. If you want a piece of mind, and more HP is not your goal, change out the pump, chain, and springs.....and enjoy your car.

Chiefsr, if it were my car, I would go ahead and replace the valve springs then check to see if you have any collateral damage from the break before throwing a bunch of money and time at the engine and then finding you have internal problems. Run the car with the new springs, do a leakdown/compression test and if O.K. then you can start thinking about mods. But if my car with that mileage I would leave it alone. Good luck.

I am leaning this direction as well. My spring kit shows up tomorrow night. My plan is to replace all the springs on the passenger side (which is where the broken one is), then put everything back together and give it a test drive. If all is well, I will replace the driver's side springs and run it with the VaraRam installed. After a few hundred miles, I will know if I want to do the cam swap and have a chance to research timing chain failures further. I really can't get a feel for the probability of timing chain failure just yet.
