I'm in the finnal stages of putting an LS3 in my 2000 coupe, I'm just waiting for my new 6 speed transmission to arrive. Should I throw a set of gears in while its apart?? I have dragracing on the mind but also want to do track days...any input while I wait for parts
Not giving much info! Gear ratio, trans, HP,you now have, etc. If you plan on D/racing, it would be wise to go w/hardend half shafts (both sides) and a trans/diff brace, regardless of the gear ratio change. Good luck.

Ah, I have 3.42s right now,T-56 trans and the LS3 is out of a 2010 Camaro that made 460 RWHP in the Camaro with just cam and 1 7/8ths headers. I have put new 918 springs with Ti retainers and new Kooks 1 7/8ths headers to stay around the Camaros Hp figures.
Brace is a good idea while its apart too, why didnt I think of that?
You def need to beef up the 342 diff. Is that the H/D case? If not I would sell that pumpkin and get a H/d case and go through it w/ H/D C/6 parts. With the T 56 you could probably get away w/ 4:10's, but I wouldn't bother jumping from the 3:42 to a 3:90, just not enough spread in my opinion.
By visual inspection of the top side of case. Standard case will have raised bracing looking like a diamond towards the rear of the case. A H/D case will have that bracing & three more raised braces looking like a pitch fork @ the front of the case (where the trans bolts up to.)
Nope no pitchforks here, just one gusset going from the diamond bracing to the front flange...
Re click on to the tech section. Then click on to the upper right of page "Search this Forum" Then type in Z 06 Differential. Once there scroll to the sixth page. There will be an article by Fast one dated 11/19/09. Stating " Differential Pictures". It will show a H/D case(top side). Show me you can do it!
Yes, all wrenching is done by me, if I had to add in labor to all my toys I would have a half a million dollars tied up in labor. I guess I'm ADD or just cant stay focused on one stupid fast car.
LS3 bolted to my tq tube
Last year when I first got the car
If you look at the second pik you can see the last ridiculous amount of money I spent making a 2000 6 speed Camaro run 9s with a bolton LS1...it went 10.30 before I gave in or my bank account...
Wow! That's a beautifull thing, in all it's grease e ness! I guess you do all your own wrenching! LOL. Being that you do your own labor, then yes, I would jump up to 3:90 or 4:10's., if you don't care for the gear, you could allways switch out.
The ls3 is gonna have a lot more torque and may not require that lower gear. Lower gears will multiply that torque and make it harder to hook. I'd leave it for now and see what you think after you get some miles on it. Looks like you know your way around the shop, it would be easier now, but, may not be worth the trouble.
