Default Muffler in trans tunnel?

I feel like changing up my exhaust a little for the summer and was wondering if anyone has ever mad a custome exhaust with a muffler/resonator in the tunnel. I know that they make them already like the xr1 and bassani but im looking for something different. I was thinking maybe modifying the resonated midpipe from the corsa sport for a C6 or CTS-V, or maybe using a small 5x8 magnaflow muffler. Just wanted to see what anyone thought about it or if there were any other ideas. By the way right now im running LG streets, no cats, and Mid America Cruiser mufflers, i love the way it sounds im just someone who always likes to change things up.

You will ROAST in the interior!!
If you remove the tunnel plate you will seriously compromise the cars rigidity.

im not talking about removing the tunnel plate i just mean placing a muffler/resonator in that location in the exhaust like in the borla xr1 system. Im just looking for something a little different then everything else.

Ok I am confused, I don't think there is enough room between the tunnel plate the the torque tube to do this?

I am not one to slam someone thinking outside the box for sure, but I really do not think this approach will work.

I put bullets in place of the cats with xpipe and then straight out the back, the sound was awesome, and cheap.

There was a thread last year with a forum member doing exactly that. Do a search...

I did a search but couldnt find anything, ill try again though. I dont think some people are understanding what im talking about. This picture of a borla xr-1 system shows what im talking about with the placement of a muffler/resonator.

Why-this is silly in many ways. You have tons of room where the mufflers are supposed to be, why shoehorn it in a place that it does not belong? What's the upside???

I dont see why its silly considering corsa, B&B, and bassani already make systems for the C5 and C6 with mufflers/resonators in this location. For me its to try and get a different sound i want, this gives me some more options than just having mufflers in the stock locations, and second there would be some weight savings in running only one muffler instead of 2(though prob not a ton depending on the mufflers)

I would hope the cost of this system would be significantly less since it incorporates the mid pipe and muffler(s).

Why not just buy one of their already engineered systems? Or try the B&B PRT system. It uses half size mufflers with a bypass tube and a selection of tips. I considered this system but went with the Ti stock setup since quiet is something I care for with a slight weight savings.

I did this with 2 Dynomax bullet mufflers. The Borla XR1 setup is nice too. Could always go with a chambered system too. There is plenty of room in there for small race mufflers for sure.

The advantage to this setup, in my case, is that I have 2 electric cutouts right before the over-axle section. Then I have a stock Z06 Ti over-axle/muffler/tip setup after that. When I run open cutouts (almost all the time), it tones down the brutal exhaust note and makes it sound nicer, and less raw. Makes cutouts more livable, and doesn't cut power since the bullets are literally straight through, no obstructions at all.

Then when I close the cutouts it is nice and almost stock sounding.

i like the xr-1 but they are hard to find. I have a set of Ti's but they are just too quiet for me and i have Mid America Cruisers on right now so if i was to buy a new exhaust id probably have to get rid of one. Im thinking of maybe getting a pair of Loud Mouth 2 resonatorsand using them, if i can find them cheap enough that is.

From the headers I ran a 3" system with hi-flo cats and had my muff guy make up the rest from the cross over with 3" tubing on each side w/Dynomax 3" inside mufflers. They fit just fine and are at the very back of the tunnel so there is very little heat to the cockpit.

ive built a lot of exhausts. when i need a low profile resonator in a performance application i almost always use bullets. (i use dynomax because of the low profile/cost/flow capabilities) i've done magnaflow before but they are quieter than the dynomax.

this is super popular among the F-body crowd.

sounds like dope has the ideal setup.

Or try a decent 2 1/2" 2 IN, 2 OUT muffler. There are plenty out there to play with. Have fun!

yea id really like to use a muffler instead of resonators only because i dont want it super loud since im running LT's with no cats. Suprisingly the only dual in/out muffler i found that will fit is a magnaflo 5x8. I would love to have a borla in there but they dont make any dual in/out mufflers that arent in a system.

LOL! I was thinking the exact same thing! Did you get that off of one of my earlier posts? Yeah, gotta put a trailer hitch on there too.
