Does anyone happen to have a valve spring compressor that could be rented to a fellow forum member? I am knee deep into this job and my napa compressor will not grab the inner spring of the Patriot Performance setup. Autozone has a rental deal, but they do not have a compatible compressor. Shoot me a PM if we can make a deal. Thanks in advance!
Chiefsr...I just changed my comp cams springs out with a manual spring compressor from O'Reilly auto parts. You don't have to grab he inside spring. As long as the outter spring colapses you have enough room to get the retainer and locks off. I run a .643" lift cam and I had no problem at all. Hope this helps..
It did the job, but getting the valve stem lined up perfectly to allow the keepers to slide in was a pain. I actually had very little trouble with the back two cyl. under the cowl, which surprised me. With this compressor, you can use an extension on the ratchet to reach back in there.
On a side note, the Patriot Performance 8401 kit comes with some serious keepers! I bet these things are twice the steel that the OEM keepers are. Also, I hear a touch more valve noise then I am used to, but I would wager that it comes from the dual spring setup. It is not very noticable unless you listen for it.
