Default Cruise control not working - 2000 vert

I have searched the past posts and not found an answer as to what to do next:

The cruise control on my 2000 convertible is not working, and has not worked since I bought the car about a month ago. I was able to get it to engage ONCE and never again.

I have done the following:

#1: Verified that the fuse is good
#2: Checked for codes - there are none
#3: Tried the "lift up the brake pedal" trick - doesn't work

I have the 2000 Dealer Service Manual (the three big books) and the diagnostic for the cruise control calls for a Tech 2 scanner. I have the AutoEnginuity scanner with the GM pack, but I cannot find any way to test the multifunction switch as described in the diagnostic flow chart in the books. The AutoEnginuity doesn't list any of the cruise stuff as testable, as far as I can tell.

From the dealer service history, I do know that the multifuction switch has been replaced in the past, a few years ago.

Without the Tech 2, I don't see how I can diagnose this further myself. Can anyone help? Any ideas on what to test/fix to get my cruise control working!

Invest in a AC/DC Volt/OHM/AMP meter. Check the CLUTCH and Brake switch to male sure that BOTH are functioning correctly.

Bill:

Thanks for the direction. I have a multimeter available, and a friend that is good at using it. How do we go about testing these switches? Note: This is an automatic, so not clutch switch, just the brake switch?

You can access the wires connected to the multifunction switch either under the dash or at the throttle control module (I think the TCM is easier).. Be careful with the multimeter - a test light is better. I used a multimeter and got a voltages when in fact it was zero when the line was loaded. In my case, it was a broken wire in the multifunction switch. Since your switch has been replaced, it is likely not the switch. Good luck.

Heres a schematic for a 99 Cruise Control Circuit:

Check voltages and wiring.
