Default Oil filter part number?

I know this might seem like a dumb question but My owners manual for my 99 says use a PF44. All the filter books at the auto parts stores say use a PF46. In them I don't even find a mention of a PF44. And to complicate things further some places are now saying use a PF46E. What is right????

Default Used a PF46E for my recent oil change...

...everything A-ok so far. No problems. slightly shorter than a PF46 and that was all I could see for difference. They were out of the 46's or I would have stayed with the normal 46.

The PF44 was the original number, which changed to a PF46. GM has now redesigned the PF46 so now it is the PF46E... all same filter. We do offer the Ultra Guard PF44, which is the UPF44. That one filters down further in microns and has some other changes.
