I have a stock 98 with 6 spd, when I am on the throttle, even slightly, there is no noise, but when I am completly off of the throttle I can hear a "slight ticking" noise from the engine?
The car has been doing this for a while, no loss of performance, and the noise has never got any worse.
Is this common, can it be the injectors, broken valve spring, any suggestions?
Thanks for the help,
Titan
Your Best method of ZEROING in on the noise is to use a mechanics stethoscope. If you don't have one or cant get one, you cam make one.
Purchase 3 feet of 3/8' dia vacuum line. Place one end of the line to your ear opening and point the other end to an area where you think the noise is coming from. Yes,,each injector should make a slight clicking noise each time it fires. Start there with your noise search, just to see how the tube works.
OR
Put a metal rod approx 2" long in one end about 1/4". Place the other end to your ear opening. With the engine running, place the metal rod on an area that you want to listen to. It will transfer the noise directly to your ear.
It works excellent. You can pin point the exact location of a noise.

Mine started off as a slight ticking noise coming from beneath my valve cover on the passenger side. It got a lot worse. Started running like poo. It was a broken valve spring. My vette is a 99.
