Would like to change stock equipment. Am considering NGK TR55s copper (gapped at 50?) and either GM Hotwires or MSD 8.5mm. Pretty sure the NGKs are the way to go after reading several posts, but wonder if one wire set is better than the other. What about radio interference? Thanks.
I'm happy with my Magnecore wires and TR55s. As for gapping I think .50 is a little on the tight side for a bone stock car but if you plan on doing some more mods before changing them again it is probably about right. It is always better to be a little on the small side. If you are going to keep it stock I think .55 would be better
Re: plugs and wires upgrade...question (QuickSilver97)
i have MSD wires here. i did them because they are <50ohm's/ft vs. 1000ohm/ft of the stock wire (stock wire will ohm out at 350ohms. the wire is only 5" long, or so). however, i did not get any appreciable gain in power. gap the plugs at .055. the wires will not affect radio any more than stock wires, which is to say- none.
So replacing the plugs and wires with aftermarket parts will not gain any increase in power on a stock engine car?
Thanks
Not unless you have something wrong with the stock hardware. Most people do the plugs to get the platinum pucks out of their engine and I decided to replace the wires with the best quality I could find while I had them out. It did make the car run smoother
Re: plugs and wires upgrade...question (blackjack)
A waste of time and money if yours are still good, except for bench racing, of course. Most wires are made by the same two or three wire makers and colored and branded differently. Many magazines have done detailed tests of different plugs and wires and found no difference on performance. :yesnod:
MSD'S also. Very fast and easy install. I've had great luck with
this brand over the years. Using stock plugs also. :seeya
Glad to hear this! I was hoping they weren't going to be hard to install. Now that I know I'm not going to see any kind of performance gain from them, can you at least see them? They should look pretty cool since they're red. :)
