I am planning on installing a Vararam and Powerduct on my 98 stock C5, and I read that this may cause engine error codes?
Does anyone have any input what to watch out for?
Thanks, Titan
Insure you get a nice tight seal. Some cars throw codes due to the increase in flow and the maf being closer. Might as well get a tune. If you don't have a good tuner around I suggest ECS for a mail order tune . They have a huge thread about it and I stand by their work.
I intend on getting a tune next year, after I install long-tube headers. Is there anything that can be done now to prevent the error codes, I read that a MAF screen helps?

NORMALY installing a VARARAM will NOT trip any DTCs....... I have installed three Vararam VB2;'s and none have had any issues... However,,,,,,,,,,you may see a slight drop in fuel mileage. That happens because of the MAF calibration.
Tuning will solve any fuel economey issue as the MAF is normally re-calibrated during the tune. Just installing a Vararam, (IMHO) is not worth a TUNE ($300-$400) If it were me,,,,I would install as many performance enhancing mods as I could and THEN get your tune to get the most out of your MODs.
Some other low buck things that you can do to enhance performance are:
-178 deg T Stat
- Ported Throttle Body
- 97-2000 C5 "Upgrade to a C5 ZO6 intake manifold" 2001 + already has the improved C5Z Manifold!
I've only seen positive results from a VARARAM install.
I didn't see a code for the first 60-80 miles, then got the 2 lean bank codes off and on. I am to around 120 miles now, but the weather has not been Vette friendly, so I cannot give a current status.
If I get a code will it actually cause any drivability problems, or is it just a "warning"?
Is anyone using the Powerduct?
Thanks for all the replies, Titan
I have the VR+PD on my 02Z.The PD gave some lean codes but adding the Halltech screen solved the turbulence & codes. That's been over a year ago and no probs since.
IMO,The Halltech screen is worth the $40 and would be a good mod before a tune.
02 had veraram for 5 years no issues. added LT headers, catless, x pipe and billy boat bullets, 160 stat, power duct. only code comes from removing 2 o2 sensors. no tune no issues. if you get a cam then u might want to get throttle body and intake mani also a tune would be good then
