Default Overheating

My C5 runs at about 192 degrees out on the open road but I noticed when leaving the engine at idle for any length of time, it will climb to about 226 degrees. This is w/ or w/o the AC on. I have yet to hear the fans running. Could it be a relay switch for the fans? I have flushed the radiator and replenished w/ new fluid. Any thoughts?

Thanks---TD

This condition is normal, the fans dont come on till 230 deg... if you want the fans to come on early you will need to turn on the AC to high and push the recirculate button on the dash (if you have the electronic version) to make the system go to high. The fans should go on and the engine temps will drop quickly.

You could also get a lower temp thermostat and a Vinci fan motor controller that will tell the fans to come on earlier. I live in S. FL, and my temps hardly ever go over 212 with this setup. Eric.

225* F idling in traffic is normal. You won't feel or hear the fans as they are quiet and well balanced.

Your temps are normal. The adjustable fan controller, typically sold for $129 is availible from Pep Boys Auto Stores for $39, sold under the OEM manufacturers name : Hayden. That will help your idling temps in stop and go traffic.
