Default Need help with oil leak

I have an oil leak that I cannot track down. It is on the bottom of the engine. I do know it is not the drain plug, it is not the rear main seal, it is not from the oil pressure sending unit, and it is not from the timing cover or front seal.

I replaced the lower oil pan gasket, but I still have the leak. If I just let the car idle it does not leak, I have to go for a drive before it will leak.

I have tried one of those UV leak detection kits, did not work.

There is a sensor in the bottom of the pan. Is this the oil temp sensor or the oil level sensor? part number?

I think I will try to replace it unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Thanks!!

If you let the car set overnight, how may drops of oil will you find on the floor? The oil temp sensor is right above the oil filter and more near the rear area of the pan. There isn't much in the area of the drain plug other than the drain plug itself that could leak oil.

Keep us posted on what you find. There isn't a chance that the oil level is higher than normal is there?

This LINK might help.

Maybe you have crankcase pressure building up causing an oil leak? Check your pvc valve and system to make sure it is working properly. I'm surprised that the dye and ultraviolet light didn't help you find the leak. Good luck!!!

After I drive it, I don’t get drops, I get a small puddle. It only leaks after it is driven.

I have tried 4 times with the UV light. I either get no oil, or I get so much all over the bottom of the pan that I cannot tell where it is coming from.

I will check the PCV and try with the UV again this weekend.

Have you de-greased engine? Starting out with a clean engine is the best way to find the origin.

Yes fully degreased, and degreased each time I have done the UV check

I agree with a pcv pressure check. That would best explain the leak that only exists when driving (or extended time above idle). I have to say though I haven't heard much about pcv issues on the LS1 engines.
