There are a few threads on this. Check with local shops(yellow pages), etc. You can have it rebuilt at a fraction of the cost of new.
also, be sure to read the threads carefully. i could be wrong but i think i read somewhere you have to be super careful about replacing the alternator (if you end up doing that).
something about the stock alternator has some chip on it, and if you don't put the correct alternator in the DIC will start kicking out all kinds of error codes.
again, not speaking from experience on this, just something i think i read somewhere.
i'm sure someone can easily verify whether i'm correct or not.
The guts are mostly from some French outfit I think, if you don't get the correct alternator that reports back to the car right, you'll get "Charge Systems Faults"
ET is the Forum alternator expert but,,,most local starter alternator repar shops will be able to service your alternator with the correct parts and at a significant cost savings.
Is the alternator in a 2002 rebuildable by a DIY'er. What is a good source for bearings and other parts. Also, what is the amperage and model number of the 2002 alternator?
that large auction site, there's a guy there that has it all. Got bearings, brushes and volt reg for $20 delivered. Takes 15 minutes to rebuild after removing from the car.
