Thinking about going to a 17" wheel

I'm in the final stages of getting my car back up and running (Twin turbo 402). Do you guys think I will benefit by going to a 17" wheel vs stock 18's? I'm going to have this car pushing 800+ at the wheels so I figured 17's would benefit me more for traction. I'm going to be running either the new Toyo TQ drag radials, Nitto NT05 radials, or BFG radials. I've considered the M/T's but I want something that's going to last longer for a street tire.

Will I see better traction on the streets with a 315/35/17 over a 315/35/18?

for acceleration, the the small rim is preferred. The fresher the tire the better the traction.

Plan on several sets of rear tires per year for best traction

I would just be concerned with finding the stickiest tire you can....
