Default Overheating, coolant spray

I drove my car (2002 Z06) the other day and noticed my coolant temps were getting higher than normal. Instead of staying around 200/220 they stayed around 240. It would stay there, idle or driving, and then would suddenly fall down to normal.

I figured my thermostat was sticking or going out so I bought a new one to swap in. When I opened the hood (engine hot), there was coolant spraying from a hose connector that leads into the reservoir.

It looks like there was so much pressure in the line that the coolant had to find a way out.

Is this common for a bad/stuck thermostat to cause excessive pressure buildup, or maybe a line is clogged?

Perhaps it's because of the loose/cracked connection that pressure was not able to build....as opposed to too much pressure. The system operates under pressure......

very common problem, they are weak at the reservoir nipple. you will need to get another one as many have, mine worked great after the new one was installed with no further incidents.

Ok, this makes sense. Do I have to replace the entire reservoir?

Do any of you have the part number for the reservoir? I just checked the hose where the leak is coming from and sure enough the nipple is broken off.

I can get one from the dealer across the street when they open tomorrow morning.....

Thanks for the help guys. Got the new tank swapped in and everything is swell now. Had to add a gallon of coolant because of the mess I made but everything is operational again

Does anyone have a use for the core?
