Default keyless entry no go

my 2000 vet keyless entry doesnt work i put a new battery in both key buttons got up close to the car and held the lock and unlock buttons for 7 seconds with no luck. does the tpm battery being down affect the keyless entry. the car only has 5800 miles and the remotes are the original.

Did you reprogram using the DIC? The procedure is in your owners manual.

Had to hold the buttons for more like 20 seconds on my 98.

Try that,if it doesn't work,try this:

KEYFOB PROGRAMMING:

1) Turn ignition on

2) Turn radio off

3) Press Driver Information Center (DIC) RESET button ( 6 )

4) Press OPTIONS button on the DIC until display is blank ( 4 )

5) Press and hold RESET button for 3 seconds ( 6 )

6) Press OPTIONS button until FOB TRAINING is displayed ( 4 )

7) Press RESET button to begin programming sequence. ( 6 )

8) Simultaneously press and hold LOCK and UNLOCK ( A & B )

buttons on first remote for 13 seconds until message

appears stating programming is complete. The computer

will ask to program second FOB. If you don't have a second

FOB follow on to step 9.

9) Turn ignition off and remove key for ignition.

10) Test remote or remotes

Tried to reprogram original FOB using all the threads and posts here for my 1998 C5 . I have only one working FOB and replaced the battery. I reprogrammed it via manual and it chirps twice after acknowleging the LEARNED FOB 1,,I tried exiting using OPTION and turned key off. I retried it exiting also turning off key to exit. It worked for a very brief time , about 2 minutes then stop functioning. I stood in front of car and tried as posted here resychronizong holding down buttons for 15 seconds. Again it chirped twice and it worked for 2 minutes then stopped functioning again. Any suggestions before I attempt to solder connections would be appreiciated? Could it be a defective New battery that I bought recently CR 2450 Energizer? thanks for any response here. This has been very frustrating. Dgbase Dave

Many thanks for the info.Worked great!I'm new here and have fixed three things that would have taken the dealer to resolve.

I just replaced the battery in my fob with a fresh one. The old battery showed 3.00 volts and I was having to stand right next to the car to get it to work. The new CR2450 showed 3.20 volts and passive starts working 10 feet away. These batteries maintain voltage right to the end so if yours is anything less than 3v I'd toss it and start fresh.

Frankly from your description it does sound like a broken solder joint. Before soldering look for obvious breaks. It helps if you have a magnifying glass or jewelers loop. Those pads are really small. New fobs are still available. I'm thinking about buying a couple before they get expensive. Let us know how its resolved.
