I just took my car out and when I parked it I got a reduced engine power message and it also said active handeling. I tried to drive the car aroud the block and immediately had very little power. Does anyone know what could have caused this? and how to fix it?
I am no expert But I herd if a c5 overheats it will shut down power to save engine. Did you see what the temp was? Im shure someone will let us know soon...........
It might just be a one time communication error. Check your codes on the DIC. I assume you shut it off and on restart all was fine? You will get a check engine light for 3 cycles and then it too will turn off.
In a reduced power situation (limp home mode) the engine will not exceed 1500 RPM. 0 to 50 MPH max.
If the problem continues, could be a faulty throttle position sensor, $350-$500 to fix or as simple as a shorted wire in the accordian harness in one of your doors.
Sounds right, At first it wouldnt let me rev over 1500 I got the service active handling/traction drive message then I turned it on and off and finally it got back to normal except the check engine light was on. I did go back to drive it 20 minutes later and it was back to square on,e I repeated the process and its driving normal with the check engine light.
Would this be something I could check myself without my mechanic getting involved. I'm trying to learn as I go. If I take the door panel off , will that give me access to see if the wires is bad?
I had the same thing happen to me, the same warnings, no power in the engine. Turned everything off, waited a minute or two, Started it back up and everything was back to normal. That was 5 months ago, have not seen it again.

Thanks for your help[/QUOTE]
No need to take the door panel off. Look for the long black accordian tube near the door hinge. Pull it up to expose the wires inside it. Check the connector plug near the engine for signs of wear/insulation damage.
Before you start trouble shooting, confirm you have an issue. Continue to drive the car to see if the condition returns, if it does, then spend time on it.
Side note, both doors have the tube, check driver side first.
I just went to check out the wires on the drivers side door, but before I checked them I started the car and sure enough I had no messages or check engine light.
Going back this problem did pop up right after I detailed the car thuroughly, dont know if that could have casued it by rattling wires up or something, but who knows. I'm going to keep driving it and take it day by day. Thanks for all the help, without this forum I would be pulling my hair out.
