Just getting ready to get the trans fluid change on the C5 and was at the dealership where they said its only recommened to exchange the fluid with the machine and if it came out contaminated then to change the filter. I would rather just change the filter to but they want what seems like a arm an a leg to do that. $179 for the exchange and " a fair amount more to do the filter "
I would love to do it on my own but I currently have no way of getting the car lifted up. I haven't got a low profile jack and ramps to get it partially up on.
I don't have an auto, but that sounds like an awful lot of $ for just sucking fluid out and replacing it. Forum members with autos will undoubtedly chime in and tell you what to do and how much to expect to pay. I'd certainly want to change the filter; your savings in doing it yourself would pay for low profile Harbor Freight jacks, jackstands, lifting pucks, filter and fluid undoubtedly. Post profile info; maybe a Forum member in your area would do it for you for very little $ or provide lifting/jacking equipment. Unless you are in central S. C. I can't help you.
No matter what I changed the filter, just good practice in my opinion. I had mine changed using the machine here at work but do not remember what it cost and would not be the same as a chain any way. Ask around to the local POL change places and see the cost and more importantly their procedures and if they have done the same work on a C5 before. Good luck.
I will be buying a harbor jack soon, I just don't have the time right this moment to build some ramps to get the car off the ground enough to use a jack as its lowered. I travel every week so finding time on the weekends can sometimes be hard with so much to catch up on.
Well so far so good. It ended up being $134.27 for the final bill to have them flush it. I was going to get the filter replaced aswell but they did not have it in stock, nor did the other parts houses in this little podunk town in TN that I work in, go figure.
Not that it was bad before but shifts twice as good, temps down about 5* average from 190/192 interstate driving to about 185 and seems to take wot fun just aswell too. Will report back in the future if it brings out any bugs in the tranny. So far its sitting at 104,254 miles.

I had my A4 flushed recently. Cost me $169. They flushed it and replaced the gasket and filter.
