I've got my 2001 coupe off the road for the winter. It's at my parents' house, all locked up and covered up in the garage. Every couple of weeks or so, I start it up, let it warm up, and since we've had an UNUSUALLY snow-free winter, I've even driven it around the block a few times in order to keep all the seals, etc. lubricated.
This past Saturday, I uncover the car to start it up, and it won turn over, just the dreaded click, click, click of the starter solenoid. The interior lights came on, and the DIC started scrolling, but that was it. I come back on Sunday, charge the battery for 10-15 minutes, and Voila! It fires right up.
I usually lock the car with the key fob, which sets the security, and I did program in a security code for the radio(I don't know why!!). Do these two devices draw enough curent to drain an 8 month old battery in two weeks?
Thanks for any input you can provide.
Hello Leadfoot, I think part of the problem is the starting the car and the round the block drive. Your C5 and all other late model cars have 'key-off drain' that will pull the battery down over time. When you start the car you remove more from the battery than the alternator has time to replace. I would purchase a battery tender, just hook it up and forget about it till spring. Good Luck!
