Well I posted about the diff breaking, Jim just got it on the rack finally and got the rear out. To our surprise the output shaft on the tranny broke also. Man this sucks, I had just picked up the a 2003 diff. with 39,000 on it and ordered the hardened left output shaft from dte, I also had purchased one of their braces used from Kubin who went to the auto with his twin turbo setup. DTE was out of braces and said it would be 2-3 weeks. Well it appeared the rear and tranny had tried to rotate and broke the case on the diff and then in turn broke the output shaft on the tranny. WTF, this all happened on the 3rd pass at Ozark dragway. So, needless to say I was able to pick up a low mileage zo6 tranny from corvette recyclers, Corbin is shipping it out today and I'll have it hopefully by next Monday. Man, I don't know if I want to go back to the track or not. I'm sure I will, but, I'm a little shell shocked for the $2000 fix. Hopefully the dte brace and lots lower mileage diff and tranny will give me some relief. My drivetrain did have 105,000 on it and well I guess I should have expected this to happen. Thought I might get a few more passes then just two.
Gotta becareful at the track with a stock diff, they are the weak link in our drive train. You should upgrade the whole diff. with the bracing. With the way my business is, I havent been back to the track cause I cant afford to break my diff. But when I did go , I slipped the helll out of it avg. 1.80-1.90 60', dont wanna push it, I love to drive my Vette Good Luck with it!
I thnk the lack of the brace was the main reason and a lot of miles. I did slip the clutch the first two passes and no problems. Did a much better burn out on the third and maybe didn't slip it as intended. Might be a while before I make it back to the track. I may just put a 150 shot on my g8gt and take it to Pinks all Out instead.

I knew a guy who had the brace and stock diff and he didnt slip it very well and the diff came apart. But that was kinda his fault. I think you should definitely take your g8gt to the Pinks All Out!
If I spray the g8 with 150 shot it should run high 11's, thats just about where my vet should run on motor. We were gonna spray the with 150, probably won't happen now.

Man thats pretty good for the g8! Tryin to talk my wife into getting one! Yea the 150 shot would most def brake another stock dif
Alright, Speedtweekerz is gonna have the car back together tomorrow. Tranny came in Friday from Corvette recyclers and it was as clean as a new one, they had a 2003 zo6 tranny with just 16,000 miles and you could tell it. Bought a used dte brace from Kubin and a left output shaft from dte. Ricky is in the process of putting it back in this evening and on the street tomorrow. What an ordeal, I know many have been thru this already. The deal is that it never broke the internals in the rear at all. The case broke away from the tranny and in turn broke the tail shaft. Guess I should have added the brace when we did the clutch. Its got one now and I'm stoked to get it back together. One nice thing about the Z tranny is 1st and 2nd gear are lower and with my taller drag radial that was hurting my bottom end a little with my 3.42 gears. The should liven it up a bunch and maybe I won't have to leave at such a high rpm. I'm gonna put a 2 step on it to control the r's leaving the line, once I figure out the perfect r's to leave at I can set it there and lay the wood on the floor. I like that thought, I'll let you know how it all turns out in a couple days. Thanks for listening.
Sounds like you encountered wheel hop. The DTE brace will help some but it will not save you if experience significant wheel hop.

No wheel hop here, the drag radials and 105,000 miles of wingin it did the case in. It has only hopped occasionally on the street and that usually happened in second gear. I try to run pretty sticky tires and that helps some. 1st pass at the track it spun pretty hard, but no wheel hop, second pass it bogged and I think it probably broke the case when it hooked coming out of the water box, it barely moved when the clutch was engaged, so, probably had just enough to stage it and bam, end of the story. It should be a much better set up now and yes it could break again, but, the dte brace will help a bunch. So, the rears are pretty tough, but, the aluminum case in my opinion is a weak point as it broke all the bolts and tore about a 5 inch section out of the top pass. side of the case.
Its all back together, just need to bleed the master and get the exhaust nice and straight. Don't know if I'll get to drive it today since we have a storm moving in.
Another update, brought it home and what a difference in the Z tranny compared to the
C5 stock tranny. My car leaps out of the hole now and second comes pretty quick with the new gearing in this tranny. Bunch of difference between 2.97 first and 2.66 in the c5 tranny and it shifts great, no notchy feel like some say, even though mine never did that. The dte brace gives me some confidence that its going to stay together and just can't wait to get back to the track and get one of those high 11 ets or maybe quicker. Don't want to jinx it. Thanks for the input and thanks to corvette recyclers for sending an awsome Z tranny to me.
