Default Help with Brakes plz....

Hey every one, i have a 2001 Z06 with 88k miles. I have the stock brake set up on it at the moment. I was going around 170 while racing a gto the other day and braked hard and now when i brake my steering wheel shakes.

What the diff between drilled and slotted vs. stock?? How long do both last??
Can anyone tell me where i can get good rotors for super cheap?
Thanx

The drilled and slotted will vent air threw and keep the rotors cooler. They are alot better than stock. I have had mine, i have dippled and slotted, for over 5 yrs now and havent had a problem yet. Ive run it a lot at the track and they stop perfectly. You can get a good deal on some rotors from a supporting vendor! Good Luck man!

No D&S rotors do not help at all. D&S last about 1/4 if that as long from high performance stopping. Seach Drill and slotted and look at all the pictures of cracked rotors from minimal use.

The car was shaking or was the ABS activated ?

What brake pads do you have ?
What type of tires do you have?
Your alignment?

and OH yah

Thats a reason why I went with Dimpled/Slotted. Havent had a problem and have put on over 40k on them. Your best bet would go with a slotted only rotor

Not for those speeds. Plain sidded rotors with racing brake pads.

ON the race track, I have no problems stopping from 155 down 50 to make a hard corner. No shakes, no rattles.

Lots of ABS action. Stop so hard it is like doing a motorcycle stoppie.

For street use and normal stopping have at it. But real 100+ mph stopping, race pads, DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 brake fluid and the proper tires.

You do 170 street racing, you need a Psychologist and/or a ticket before you hurt yourself or worse, someone else !

Grow up and take it to the track ONLY !

I didnt know it was a big thing to you guys about how fast i go in my corvette. Its made for speed. Im not a person who buys a sports car that is a super car and can hit 200mph just to drive it 65mph tops. I ask for help and facts as i do the same....not for opinions on how i live my life....im sry but i dont give opinions only facts. how would some of you like it if some one told you your car is ugly and mine looks better?? you wouldnt, rite?? i want facts, not some dude calling me stupid because of how i live my life.......

Here are your facts, you probably transferred brake pad material to your rotors, thats why they shake your steering wheel now. A couple of hard stops may fix them, if not polish them with emery cloth.

Now, confine your speeding to the track or you may not have any life to live.

One No street racing threads. ie just dont street race that is plain stupid

On a track that is different. Actully the Stock brakes are quite good, you just need race brake pads and plain sided rotors. YES these are consumable items and will be need to be changed / replace often

a set race brake pads and front rotors will last me 3-4 weekends on the track, a set of rear brake pads and rotors may be 6-7 weekends.

I replace my calipers each winter. ( $300 for a front set )

I use Wilwood H brake pads or PFC-02s - ( $550 a set) Not good for the street
Castrol SRF brake fluid ( $80 / liter )
NAPA / Rock Auto plain sided rotors. ( $50-60 a set)

or spend $6K - $9K on a set of BBKs and another $6K on a set of wheels to fit over the BBKs

but you will still need to get brake pads and rotors each year. ( $15-$1600 )

Brake parts are consumable items, no matter how you look at it.

and please no street racing / kill stories on CF. Several years ago there as a street match arranged on CF and resulted in a fatal accident.
