I didn't see any 18 x 11 Factory Style wheels. I only saw the stock sizes on WCC and Mallett, and 18 x 10.5 was the largest size I saw on Xtreme's site. Were you referring to the factory style wheels (repro's) or some other brand / type of wheel?
I'm holding out hoping that LAPD gets the 12" wheel. Since I scuffed one of mine a few weeks back (stupid york!) I'm interested in upgrading to the wider width!
I need 18x11 rear rims to accomodate a wider tire. My stock 18x9.5 do not hook up. I spin all thru first and second, and the tires bark loud on shifting from 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4. When I get my nitrous kit installed, I can only imagine the problem getting worse. 18x11 rims could fit some 315's. 18x10.5's can only fit 305's which are hard to find. At the track, I run 18x11 forgeline's with 335's, but they are really too wide for the rim for daily use. Even with the 335's, I still spin all thru first and bark them hard during shifting.
The reason I want some 5 spoke chrome repro's are to match my fronts. I don't want to spend several grand on 4 new rims. Besides, I like the style of the rims that came with the car. :yesnod:
In the end, I'd like to sell my 18x9.5 rims and tires as well as the 18x11 forgeline's and tires. That should be enough to cover the cost of 18x11 repros and new tires.
Honestly going to a wider tire is not going to help you much for traction. The easiest way to increase traction is move to a larger sidewall. The reason is that for acceleration you want a "LONG" contact patch as that gives the best friction, a "WIDE" contact patch is better for handling. If you go with a longer and wider contact patch, with a wider tire and higher profile, you will get the same effect. The next step is to go with a stickier compound tire. If traction is a huge problem, you might want to consider moving to a 315/35 R17 drag radial from Nitto.

so which is it, long or wide?
Ahh yes, the age old question! The only 315's made in 18" diameter are 30 series, which is at least an inch shorter than a stock (non-Z06) tire. In fact, the only way to stay with at least the same height in an 18 is a 345. Then you are into tubbing or a real tight fit with custom wheels. Another option is 295/35 - 19's. These are slightly bigger OD than stock - which adds contact patch in the "length", but 19" wheels aren't cheap.
How about we all e-mail The Tire Rack - our Forum tire vendor, and get them to work with a couple of Vendors on some new wheel and tire packages at a "reasonably" affordable price. Say 315/35 - 18 rears on like a Michelin Pilot or BFG KD, and some 11" rear wheels in a "reasonably" affordable price range (no more than $2,000 per set of four).
I like that idea as well. I asked this question before and got a limited reply, maybe you all have been throught this. Will my 275/40-18" fit up front? If so I can save a couple of bucks by getting a pair of 10.5-18" for the rear in 00 oem look.
Same problem ,have some big HP gains comming from mods to be installed soon......tripp
Almost exactly what I am doing. I am moving my OEM Rears up front and getting some repro y2k in 18x10.5 in high-polish from extreme, for the rear. Nate said this is a fairly common procedure. I am ditching the runcraps and getting all new rubber. The problem you may have is that I don't think they make a wider runflat for the rear, at least OEM, and it isn't a good idea to mix tires (manufacturer/model). So unless you go 275 all the way around, you will want new tires too.

Those would be a full inch taller than stock. I would not recommend it. Look at the pic below - those are 275/40 - 17. You'd be an inch taller than this, and this is not lowered car. I am now 3/4 inch lower in front.
How about all new rubber, 265x35-18" front on 18"x 9.5" rims, and 295x35-18" rear on 18"x 10.5 rims. Tires?, maybe nitto, yokohama AVS,they dont need to be run flats as long as the rear hooks up better then the oem"s.
I think if the concern is drag racing, the width of the front tire is fine unless you want to go narrower to reduce rolling resistance, so I would just leave the fronts alone. As far as the rears go, I would like to see someone make a reproduction of the 5-spoke polished aluminum in 18 x 11 and a tire manufacturer like Nitto to make a drag radial in 315 / 35 / 18. This would fit the Vette without tubbing and would not mess with the rear end ratio, active handling, etc., as the overall height is only 0.019 inches taller than the stock wheel and tire combination (on C5's 275/40/18). I think if these options were available, they would also be the least expensive solution.
