Hey guys what is a good price to pay to get a new water pump replaced on my 2000 c-5 the chevy dealer wants $685.00 not includeing tax is that a fair price? i can afford it but i just dont want to get ripped off... Thanks
Are you mechanically inclined at all? It's not that tough of a job to do really. There are no special tools or procedures it's just a little tough getting the radiator and fan assembly out.
We can guide you through it I'm sure if you've got a set of tools and are willing to try.
Good luck and I wouldn't ever pay someone 500+ dollars to swap a chevy V8 water pump.
I'm with the rest of the guys. diy.
Cory (wayne gretz) had a leak in his water pump gaskets on his Z. neither of us have changed a water pump before but we got it done thanks to the forum and fixed his car cheap. and we changed the coolant, the thermostat and the belt oddly enough the gaskets were the problem, not the pump. either way, we'll walk you through it.
good luck
DIY - save loads of $ and not a very difficult job.
What makes you think the water pump needs replaced? Leaking coolant? That could just be gaskets as others said. Making a lot of noise? Car overheating? Thermostat good?

I just looked at a DIY on LS1howto and no removal of the radiator and fan assembly was mentioned... Just looking at the positioning of the pump would indicate removal is not necessary...
