It's nice, on the freeway I just downshift to 4th, put my foot all the
way on the gas and as soon as the rpms hit 3 grand it just takes off.
It felt crazy at first, suddenly the tac starts climbing REALLY fast,
the back end squats down big time and it gets VERY loud. The first
time I tried downshifting to 3rd at 50mph and I got a pretty good spin
out of the back tires. At 60 on up it's okay.
Got my first race in yesterday as well!... Some guy and his buddy in a black mitsubishi 3000 GT convertible pulled up next to me on I-5 going north near Southcenter. Of course I thought a little race would fun, but he started yelling over taunting us, and saying something about how american sh** sucks. I wasn't even gonna use the nitrous at all, but my roommate goes, "This guy is an aZZ. Turn it on" ...I had to agree.
I flipped the arm switch and got ready, then he took off. I downshifted
and took off after him. There really isn't much to tell after that... he just was
a speck in my rearview... so fast it was like racing a mini-van. It seemed
fast when I was all by myself just testing it, but that was really where
it was noticable.
The best part was after I slowed down and he eventually pulled up beside
me, he wouldn't even look at me!! .. he just looked straight forward and
pulled off the freeway at the next exit!
Congrats!!! You'll Love it!!! I installed N2O on my 85 Vette and now am consisering doing the same for my 99 C5. What made you decide on the TNT kit? Also, can you tell me what you kit includes and the cost? I'd also like to see some pictures of the installed items when you get some. TIA. Nice to talk to another bottle beast!!
I picked the TNT because it's a wet kit, it had dual jets on either side of the power coupler and yes, the black bottle looks very cool! ;)
The kit lists at 650, but I also added the NX bottle warmer, because it works off pressure, not temp. That was about 180. I then added a throttle position sensor so it only will activate when it's very close to wide open. That was about a hundred. Then I added an MSD RPM window switch. That was 80, but paid another 100 to have it mailed back to MSD to get it properly calibrated for the C5. The switch keeps the NO2 on between 3000 and 6000 rpms. A little touch that'll keep me from spraying if I hit the rev limiter.
What nice about this set up is I can drive around anytime with it armed and ready and then only have it kick on when I REALLY need it. ;)

I don't understand. MSD has to recalibrate the window switch to make it work for the C5? Don't they just sell one for the C5? I'm curious because I was thinking of putting the same setup on my car. Thanks, Eric
Wow! when i first got my vette (5 weeks ago) i was suprised to learn that so many guys use Nitrous. I'm used to hearing nothing but bad things but it seems if you get the right set up with somebody that knows what they're doing when installing it, it's pretty safe. I did hear repeatedly even from people who love it that a shot of 150hp is quite harsh? I heard that 100 would be safe. I'm pretty convinced i'm going to get a wet kit from hearing so much great feedback! Can't wait.

I'm no expert on nitrous, but someone that's in the nitrous business told me tonight that if you're going to go with more than a 100 shot, an auxillury fuel pump is needed to be safe.

Why did it need calibrated. All I had to do was snip the red and blue wires to put it in 4-cylinder mode (our tach works of that type of signal) and away I want?

Unfortunately that's what MSD told me. The only one Summit Racing sold was the generic switch. You might have better luck ordering directly from MSD and telling them it's going to be used in a C5. That switch took the most time to get and to make work. Everything else went in without problems.
I put the 100 jets in first, but am putting 150 in right now. More than few guys on the forum run a 150, so I'm not too worried. The guys at the shop which do quiet a few N02 installs said it's not the shot (within reason) that usually wrecks an engine, it's bouncing off the rev limiter, which cuts the gas, causes the engine to get to lean ..and BAM!... So when it doubt, run a little rich.

Yeah, I don't know... I was definitely not happy about the extra $$ and time, but oh well.. .what's done is done... everything works great now, so I can't complain too loudly!

You will get the same lean problem when you add more N2O than fuel. Just because you have the bigger fuel jets in there doesn't mean you have the fuel pressure to get enough in the chamber. There are a few guys that do it but I wouldn't chance it. If you spray and don't have enought fuel say good bye to your engine. I wouldn't do 150 without a bigger fuel pump. www.breathlessperformance.com sells them for $225. That is a lot cheaper than a new engine. I'm telling you DON'T DO IT :smash: It isn't worth the risk.

I think it's running pretty rich right now.... when I pull my foot off the gas and decel.. there a serious amount of unburnt gas.... it pops and crackles a lot. Needless to say, with the loudmouth I hear all of that! :yesnod:
I'm really curious to hear a few owners with that run a 150 wet kit chime in... how many miles have they run that shot.. what were the results.. etc...
It's definitely not too pricey to add the other pump, so that might be the best option anyway.
150 shot?.. who has run one for a long time? Let me know... I'll wait to put the jets in until I hear a bunch more opinions.....
i dont think anyone here runs a TNT 150 shot with a stock fuel pump, if they are they wont be for lomg  switch back to the 100 jets or gat a Walbro 340 pump or something, if you dont belive me call James at TNT. the TNT 150
shot is WAY different than NOS or NX.

Hey Skeeter, I'm back on getting a nitrous setup. I spoke w/Mike Norris about another cam, and I can get way more HP with the nitrous setup for far less money.
How about a 100 shot and no extra fuel pump. Will that work OK? Or is it better to get an auxillury fuel pump anyway. Thanks, Eric

You don't need to have the MSD window switch recalibrated, just cut the wire like c5noir said. You do need to buy rpm pills for the MSD window switch, which is why I went with the Mallory.
If you have a fuel pressure safety switch (FPSS), I'd feel okay about increasing the shot to 125 (TNT rated, or 150HP for NX since NX rates theirs at the fly and TNT at the wheels). I ran 150HP NX for quite some time and no problems. If you do go with 150HP TNT, I'd definately have a fuel pressure gauge installed so you could monitor that. It may work out okay, I really don't know. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked out okay though. Just make sure you get a FPSS just in case something does happen. And say goodbye to your clutch. :seeya :seeya

:yesnod: :yesnod: :yesnod: Yup, that's all you have to do. You got ripped by MSD, big time. Shame on them.
