I know there is a lot of info on here about tire sizes, but I just wanted to be sure. I came across some free wheels off a 2008 and I want to get them put on in a hurry because they are sooo nice. Here is my dilema. The wheel sizes are 18 front and 19 rear. They have tires on them but the front need replacing badly. My stock rear tires are 275/40/18 and I wanted to put these on the front 18's of the new wheels. The tires on the rear new wheels are 285/35/19. Is there any harm in this. Just trying to save a few buck until later in the year. Thanks for your help.
Here we go! I put C6 wheels and tires on my '02 vert. Later, just out of courusity, I put the rear C5 wheels and tires on the front and ran them for about a week. No problems at all. Might be diffrent on another car, so don't think this a guarantee, ok?

Thanks, that's what I was looking for was anyone who actually did thid and what problems they had. Thanks again.
"The Traction Control System (TCS) also monitors rear wheel speed and compares the speed to the speed of the front wheel. If excessive rear wheel speed is detected in either rear wheels the TCS will be activated. The TCS uses the following to improved traction and vehicle stability:
* Throttle Shutdown
* Timing control
* Rear brake intervention"
End quote
Your car came with 245/45ZR17's on the front and 275/40ZR18's on the rear. The overall diameter for the fronts is 25.6 and the rears 26.7 giving a stagger of 1.1 inches. That stagger is what the computer looks for to determine excessive speed in either a front or rear wheel and then will take corrective action through the TCS/AH system.
If you significantly alter that stagger the computer will receive false information and apply corrective measures at inappropriate times.
The stagger you are proposing is 26.7 front and 26.9 rear for a difference of only .2 inches.
While you may be able to get away with this stagger while driving conservatively you WILL cause the TCS/AH system to activate much sooner than is necessary or desirable under less than ideal conditions.

Thanks again. hopefully it works as this is only temporary until I can get new tires on the rears. I just want to get them on now to see what happens and evaluate from there. I was more concerned with rubbing but I wasn't sure on the TCS. That helps so I know what to look out for. What is the widest tire you can put on the rears? Thank you.
A 285 on C6 stock wheel runs close on the inside mounted on the rear of a C5. Some rub, some don't. If it rubs, a 1/4" spacer will take care of it. I've run mine with and without the spacer, no problem either way. It would look a little better with 5/8 or 3/4" spacer, but that brings on more work and expense.
