The original owner of my head/cam Z06 used 5w-40 auropean and that is what is still in the car. I put probably 3000 miles on it so far and it seems to really like that oil but there are so many other types like 0-30 signature series and 5w-30 and probably more. 5w-40 was really popular a while back but I dont see many using it now. Just thinking about a change. I have 2 qts of the 5w-40 still that I need to use up.
ok what is the difference between the 0w-30 signature and the 5w-30 asl. Is there just one type of both. I know the first number is just for cold start up and they are both 30 weight oils but what does the asl and sso stand for ?
I use Amsoil SSO 0w-30 in my 99 w/137kmiles. I believe SSO stands
for Signature Series Oil since the company founder Al Amatuzio
puts his signature on the bottle. It is Amsoils most technically advanced
oil for modern cars. I have used it since it first came out, 1997 I believe.
If you have high consumption,or open track alot I would recommend
5w-30 or the 5w-40 Euro.On the street with a tightly sealed motor
SSO is the best you can use.
At the track w/out cats RD30 10w-30 Race Oil w/ 1600+ ppm zinc &
phosperous.
I use the 20-50 for mine seeing it is tracked. If you go to ax/road racing section and search for "subdriver", he is the forum AMSOIL rep and recommend the best oil for your needs. He suggested the 20-50 for me because I do dd also so I would need something with some detergents. Give him a buzz. They were running a special.
