Default Tail lights and Dash lights

I have a problem with my tail lights and dash lights. at night they are on until i turn on the head lights then the tail lights go out and dash lights go out. The blinkers, break lights, and HUD still works but no tail lights or dash lights. Everything i am reading is similar to my problem but not exactly the same and they all are telling me the multifunction switch is the problem. I removed the multifunction switch and cleaned all of the contacts and added dielectric grease for the head lights and they are all making good contact (checked with an fluke) (this repaired other GM multifunction switches for me). if there is anything else someone might know to check it will be greatly apreciated.

dielectric greas was minimul and mainly for the moving parts. The twilight sentinel if i am thinking correctly changes the lights between day and night but dont turn on the headlights, if so then the light intensity does shift at night.

thats why i am asking if anyone else has any ideas on what the problem might be. i have the switch back out and looking again nothing looks broke and the cam gear is working as it should... all pin connections are clean...

if you turn on the headlights with the ignition off and keyout the lights turn on and the dash lights go off but the odomiter dont come on (which it should) and tail lights are off but breaks and blinkers work. the same result with the car running in park or drive... i started noticing a delay with the dash lights last year but they come on within a few seconds... this didnt happen all of the time but never stayed off... i had a mysterious electrical problem which killed my battery narrowed it down to the drivers seat and have not had that problem since...

OK... so i finally got a little time off to continue troubleshooting... i am originally from Mississippi so i reverted to some red nek troubleshooting methods because the technecal type was not working... i pluged the multifunction switch in, not connected so i could hold it in my hand... turning the lights on and off same results so i started wacking the switch with a screwdriver and what do you know the tail lights and dash lights came on... then off so i wacked it again and they came back on... now if i can find where the problem is inside the switch...

i had to bend the brass tabs inside the switch to get better contact. A year later, still no problems.

everything seems to be making good contact... having to tap the switch it seems like the contacts are sticking... and the contacts are textured instead of smooth... i have cleaned them and now thinking about sanding them... maybe it will work...
