Default Noob questions

Hi guys, I'm moving over from the C4 forum, so I already have some noobie questions.

I picked up a M6 '98 today, it's in the 90s, and I can hear the fan roaring, and there is a little cold air seeping out of the vents, but just barely. Like maybe the doors are stuck closed or something. I'm going to
disconnect the battery for a while (sometimes that resets the blend doors on C4s), is there anything else I should try? Is this common?

Also, I took it through the car wash and tons of water came in on the tops of both windows. Worse than my 95 even. Is this common? Is there some sort of grease that will bring the weather stripping back to life?

Thanks guys.

Don't know anything about the HVAC, but a little silicone grease can help your weather stripping seal up.

Your HVAC issue is very common. The damper doors are VACUUM actuated. The vacuum comes from the back of the intake manifold thru a very small black nylon vacuum line. Either it disconnected OR, battery caid has leaked from the battery and melter=d the vacuum line which runs inside the main wiring harness under the battery.

The vacuum resovour is inside the passeneges fender. I recommend that you remove the battery and inspect the frame and wiring harness under that area. If the frame is all rust and there are white acid deposits on the harnesses and parts under the battery, YOU HAVE MAJOR ISSUES to resolve.

The window is easy. It needs a window adjustment which is fully detailed in the service manual. I strongly recommend that you purchase a full factory service manual either used or thru www.gmpartshouse.com thru Gene Culley (forum sponsor) If yoiur going to save money and do repairs your self,, your going to need the service manual!

Check out the area under the battery and let us know what you find. It could be as simple as the line is off the fitting on the manifold. Repair requires manifold removal if its disconnected.

New weatherstripping works wonders. Even though it is free of physical defects, you don't realize how it can shrink over time...especially compared to a new piece side by side.

I pulled the battery andfound a little acid, but not what I would consider a huge amount, but I also found half a vacuum line. It doesn't look desolved, more like ripped, like maybe the PO dropped the battery on it or something. Is routing a new line a big deal?

If you want it to be factory, its a pain in the *****. You can route it along side the harness and secure with vinal wiring harness tape. Most autoparts places carry a repair splice kit.

5/32 vacuum hose works well for a repair.
