Hi, I tried to resurrect an older thread with the same subject as to not reinvent the wheel but for some reason it was closed. Anyway...
My key fob is acting crazy. A few weeks ago it stopped working and each time I went through the reset instructions...hold down LOCK & UNLOCK for seven seconds...the horn sounds...and it works again. I would come back to the car 15 mintues later and it's dead.
Shortly after (a few days) I received Low Battery Voltage messages on the DIC so I replaced the battery and all was good for two weeks. Now this morning it started again! Every time I go to my car I have to reset to make it work again.
I opened the FOB up and cleaned the contacts to ensure the buttons registered with the FOB. Other than checking the FOB battery what else could it be?

check the soldering points on the fob. The small chip that sits out by itself often have cold solder points.
As mentioned already, there's a device inside with only four contacts. Check for a broken contact and resolder, otherwise, the fobs appear to have a lifetime. After 8-10 years, they die for other unknown reasons. Contact Gene Culley at www.gmpartshouse.com as he's got the best price in town for them.

If I order one of those and my FOB still doesnt work what on the car would be bad?

Assuming you have the same problem as the OP, the usual cause is a bad fob. Trust me, they do fail eventually. You can certainly try replacing the battery first which is an obvious cause, but depending on the age of the fob, the usual is the fob itself. On very rare occaisons, there is a problem with the receiver and I've only read here in this forum that its usually a bad connection to the receiver. To be fair though, I have heard of one receiver failure where it had died.
I'm reading into your words that you've probably lost both fobs as in their operation. Best thing there if you want assurances is to go to the dealer and have them test a known good fob on your car.
