Strange thing going on here. Monday I was out picking up some things at the store when the monsoon hit.....wind, rain and oh yeah,....large HAIL. Needless to say, the car came thru it all perfectly no issues at all thank god. After the rain stopped, being as close to the deleware river as I was, the streets had quite a bit of water on them and in some spots I'd say 5 to 6 inches deep. The vette got thru all that fine, but after getting back to dry land the "service active handling" message came up and the light on the gagues lit. I went into the store and came out....both the message and the light were gone. Yesterday morning, after more rain overnight, i started the car and the message was back. Drove to work and came out the end of the day, no message, no light. Neither has returned since....could something have gotten wet to cause that and it went away when it dried out?
Every time I drive my '03 coupe in the rain, I get the abs warning light and active handling message and sometimes more warnings. Haven't been able to fix it. Thinking of moving to Arizona!
best way to find out is to use the procedure below to check for the codes that identify your situation... .most likely they will be "History" codes (suffixed by a -H), that you should erase...and see if they return. If they do not return, the heavy rain/ moisture may have gotten to certain contacts or grounds affecting continuity or grounding points temporarily..try this:
with the key in the on position, but the engine not running
push and release the reset button until all messages cleared
next push and HOLD button #4
next push and release button #1 four times while holding button #4
When first engaged the on-board diagnostics go into an "automatic" mode which shows all parameters: PCM-TCS-RTD-BCM-IPC-radio-HVAC-LDCM-RDCM-SCM-RFA. If there are no problems, you will see "no more codes" on the ICP display. The computer will show two kinds of codes, "current" and "history," designated "C" or "H". A current code indicates a malfunction is present in the system whose module is displaying data. A history code indicates a past problem. When the screen displays "manual diagnostics," select the desired module by pressing the "options" button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Press "gages" to go forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press "E/M". to erase or "clear" codes, press .""reset
