Hey, i am dying to do this mod, i have a custom shift **** that looks absolutely awesome in the car, the only problem is that it is ridiculously high. I also wanted more precise shifts and was going to go with the ripper, but there is slight to no height change with that route. I was wondering if anyone in the MD/NJ area might be able to help a fellow forum member out with this one, i'll drive to meet you. I have little experience working on the car, and am scared as hell to f*ck something up. THanks a lot.
Justin
Re: HELP WITH MODIFIED STOCK SHIFTER PLEASE (MEATHOUSE)
U need a road trip. Drive to Vegas and I will cut the shifter for yah!!! :jester
If your aftermarket shifter does not need a threaded shaft but is set in place with set screws, then all you need to do is to cut the back upper shaft off. There is enough of the lower shaft for you to put a after market shifter on it.
Here is what scott97 did: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=253415 and here is my original post: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=242859
If you need more help, just click on the shifter link on my sig.
Re: HELP WITH MODIFIED STOCK SHIFTER PLEASE (MEATHOUSE)
I'm doing the same mod that chuckster did to his stock shifter, I have my shifter removed from the car and already apart. I just need to find someone to tap threads onto the shifter shaft and into the top part of the old shaft.
but so far this looks like a really cool mod!
the stock shifter is very easy to remove, and cutting the old shaft off with a dremel tool is easy. If I only had a tap and die set and a vise, I'd be in business!
justin,
I'm near atlantic city, if you want to do a road trip I'll help you take your shifter out and take it apart, as lond as you have a **** that uses set screws, it's no problem. getting the shaft threadded and the old shaft tapped is the only problem.
