Default rear differential

I have a 2000 and had it repaired for grinding noise makin geft & right turns. The dealer did not add the lubricant and I dorve it for a year. Next spring there was the same leak back under therear end and the mosie was back. I found out that it must be added from reading a forum and went back. They refunded me my money and made sure it was added. Year 4, and it's nack in again. This time they say the clutches are gone and need to be replaced but it's not caused by leaving out the lubricant. I asked that first time what the future problmes may occur and as told that they would look after it. Anyone know about this?

I use the Mobil one Syn lub with the LS additive already in it!! no problems.......

you should drain the fuild and add it yourself..... some people just add a little additive and the clicking goes away.. I have a 2000 and I have never had a problem with mine. Diff was rebuilt few months ago when I put the 4.10's in

The limited slip fluid allows the clutches to slip smoothly when they need to slip (in tight turns).

Without the limited slip fluid, the clutches will bind, chatter and pop during tight turns.

Jack the rear of the car off the ground. If your clutches are still good, you will not be able to turn one rear wheel by hand when the car is in gear. It should take about 80 foot /lbs of force to break it free amd get it to move. If the wheels turn easily by hand, the clutches are damages and worn out and will require replacement.

I am back again after a couple of months and the noise is back. Personally I think the dealership caused the problem to come back by not adding the additive in the first place and now it has caused damage to the clutches. After being told if I had anymore trouble they would look after me they are changing it to they did nothing wrong in the first place that will be 900.00 pelase.

If you cant work it out with the Stealership,,,contact GM Custormor Assistance Center. The number is in the owners manual in the back. Or you can google it.

Tell them your problems and they will assign you a case number and look into it. The squeeky wheel gets the grease.

could you clarify please? when i have the rear jacked up, i can spin the one of the rear wheels, but it does take around 60 lbs of force to move it while holding onto the tire. just a little confused because you said in the first sentence that you will not be able to move it at all by hand. thanks.
