I have been having an ongoing issue with the HUD on my 02 Zo6; about a month ago it started going in and out periodically while driving. At first it seemed to be associated with bumps in the road, like there was a loose wire somewhere. Then as I started messing with it I discovered I could make it come back on by changing the brightness level (drop it to off then all the way on). Now recently instead of flickering off and on, it will flicker all from normal to all the lights being on, similar to a diagnostic. This happens regardless of other things in the car being on like lights, radio.....etc
I have found only one thread with a similar issue on the Z06 forums and the solution was to have the entire unit sent off for repair. .
I have also read quite a bit on the grounding issues on the C5's and think this could be related. Does anyone know to which of the grounding spots the HUD would go to?
All of the HUD's power comes through a small ribbon cable which is the only connection to the HUD, going directly to the IP Cluster. Either your HUD is failing or this cable is coming lose. Yes, possibly a problem with the IP Cluster. Try pulling your codes although I doubt you will see anything related but just for good measure. There is a light sensor in the HUD which has been known to go bad. You can see it from the outside of the car by looking on the lower forward edge, facing outward, a small hole. Its failure could cause the HUD to brighten and dim on its own.
