Default Wax and Paint Type Relationship

Does anyone know what kind of paint was used by GM on a 2001 C5? I'm trying to learn about which wax is best to use and I've read that it depends on the type of paint on the car.

While I'm asking, who has a good recommendation for cloth, polishing towels, chammy, etc.

Lastly, with Father's Day this weekend, I need to acknowledge that I wouldn't have to ask you guys if my Dad was still around. He took great pride in detailing his cars and even did it as a favor to many neighbors.

Happy Father's Day Dad... wish you were here!

There's lot of forums on the main menu page. One of them is the Car Care Discussion...lots of pros and waxer enthusiasts there...

Where did you READ this? Your only waxing the clearcoat on top anyway. Best shine I've ever seen is Hand Glaze (no WAX).

Since they transitioned from St Louis to Bowling Green, Ky. as the Corvette Assembly Plant in mid 81 the paint on Corvettes is a base coat/clear coat finish. Take a look at the Zaino line of polishes and sealants. Great array of products to keep your car looking clean and wet.

C5's have GM Basecoat/clearcoat (as stated above). It's as hard as a rock.

Once the defects, swirl marks, etc. have been corrected, any quality paint sealant will work.

I like Zaino Z2Pro, Z5Pro, and Blackfire Wet Diamond . Sealants have significantly more longevity than traditional waxes. Not to mention the wetness and slickness they provide.

there's a little more to it than "basecoat / clearcoat"

1K, 2K, solvent borne, waterborne, etc

not saying that that matters at all for his purposes. but all base/clear's aren't exactly the same
