Is there a power train manual or more specifically a book for rebuilding the '01 Z06 trans from Chevrolet? I'm a heavy duty mechanic and feel qualified to do a small manual trans. I just need the book and the tools.
A Snap-on dealer told me the book was called Chevrolet Power.
Any of y'all ever tackle this trans?
I've had the synchros replaced twice and figure if I do it my self once, (just replacing synchros) I can get really good at it and maybe do side jobs out of my house.
Just be wary of the differences since that document covers front mounted transmissions too like the Camaro, Cobra, Viper etc. It's not hard if you've been in a trans before. This was the 2nd manual transmission I've worked on (the first being my Nissan Maxima), I replaced the 3rd gear synchros. It's been 4 years and probably 80k miles, no leaks and still shifting strong I did it on jackstands, common hand/air tools and I'm by far not a professional mechanic.
If you do a search, there is a thread here where a member did the complete diy rebuild with pics and parts. It was an interesting thread and yes it was not easy. Seems like he had to keep fabricating pullers and presses. Good luck with it.
