Are there break-in additives added to the Mobil1 oil when the car comes from the factory? "Somebody" told me not to do my first oil change until at least 5,000 miles because I would be draining out the break-in additives that were added to the Mobil1 when she was originally assembled. This person went on to say that if I put fresh Mobil1 (without the necessary break-in additives) in too soon , the engine won't break in properly. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks! (BTW, she has 2,000 miles on her.)
Some people beleive that if a auto came with natural oil and you want to change to synthetic oil it's best to go about 5k and then switch over. They believe the synthetic does not allow enough friction for a proper break in.
I think thats what the person meant to say but got a little confused.
Either way it doesn't have anything to do with your Vette. Just doing a little mind reading.
Changed mine last fall at 1,000 miles with Amsoil. Everything I have ever read states no break-in special oils of any kind. I also think that Dave Hill was asked this question here on the forum, you might want to check the back issues of his question and answer area.
