Are these problems related?
Been having a problem with the Multi Function Switch which I think Lucky hit the nail on the head but I haven’t had time to replace yet.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...ereabouts.html

Also been getting a check engine light about every other time I drive it but it clears up on its own.

Now, I went to start the car after it sat for about 7-10 days and it’s completely dead. I trickle charged the battery over night, she fired right up, and I went for a quick 5 mile cruise and all seemed OK. Two and a half days went by and I then went to start it this morning and it’s completely dead again, barely a click.

I checked the codes and they are all History codes but maybe they are a clue to the folks on here, so I listed them below. Normally, I suspect the battery but it has only 1 season on it and gave no signs of getting weak. I now assume alternator. Analog gauge was reading ~13 amps during the five mile cruise – that may be a bit low.

Car is hooked up to the charger again now. It’s a 2000 with 31K.

Anything I am missing before I pursue the alternator?

Thanks

Ok, couple of things going on here. All that loss of communication, coupled with the U1255 says you have a class 2 issue. Most common cause is the wiring in the left door.

Start with post #642 (pictures and troubleshooting courtesy of the master)

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...n-long-33.html

If this does not resolve your issue, it's going to be time to troubleshoot the class 2 serial bus....which we can help you with.

As always, makes sure you have a good battery, and the connections are free of corrosion, and tight. May also be worth looking at the ignition switch.....but one thing at a time.

Thanks Lucky - I'll check that when I get home, and let you know what I find.

By the way - That is one amazing post that you linked me to. I didn't know the posts were numbered at first and I read on and on for a few pages. I'm glad I did - great stuff

You can thank Bill Curlee for taking the time to create the thread, and share his knowledge and expertise, which has most certainly been invaluable on this forum.

Lucky,

Car started right up. Took it for another cruise and watched the Battery voltage on the DIC. It never went below 13.6 even with headlights, AC and radio for about 5 Miles.

I just finished looking at the door wiring. Here is what I found; Which looks exactly like Bills picture.

I didn't have any of that liquid electrical tape, so I taped the wire the best I could with small strips of tape and tweezers, then taped around the connector to hold it together a little better. I'll have to track down some liquid tape.

Car started right up again.

Then I ran the codes again and got two new ones;
10 PCM
P0113 C
P1111 H C

Is that because I had the wires apart and it hasn't cleared yet?

I'll see if it starts in the AM.

Thanks!

No sir, unrelated. Those codes are for the Intake Air Temp Sensor. Have you distubed the air intake, or done any work in that area? If so, inspect the wiring and connector.

No, I haven't touched anything up there and car is completely stock.

Everything appears to be in order from what I can see....?

Well it looks like the problem might be solved.
The battery is holding a charge now.
The new codes, that I mentioned, have changed to history.
I found the liquid electrical tape on McMaster Carr to complete the job properly.
Lucky and Bill – I can’t thank you enough for your help. The amount of knowledge offered on the Forum is unreal.
I plan on donating to the St. Jude’s fund every time someone saves me time and money troubleshooting/fixing a problem.I love this Forum

However, I still have the check engine light with no new codes??
