Default Water tempertures

I have a 2001 auto coupe. It has heads, cam, fast 92 intake, 90mm throttle body, LG long tubes, Varum intake. Its been tuned and the fans set to come on at 160. My question is I now see water and oil temps around 220. Is that reason for concern or just part of the performance upgrades. I have thought about a better radiator. Any inputs would be great.
Laurence.

Did you change your T stat to a 160* one? If not you will never see temps lower. The fans will come on at 160* but your T stat won't be open.

I have a 160 Tstat also, in the mornings my water temp are between 195-208* and in the afternoon, my temps are around 215-220*, In the Fall/winter, my temps are around 178-183*. Houston summer temps suck.

When was the last time you cleaned the radiator and a/c condenser? You might have sucked up something while driving. Happened to me a few days ago. Going along, everything normal (water 190, oil 205) and then almost immediately, water 208, oil 228. So, I'm getting ready to clean all that junk out.

In Houston, with 160 and tune, I get water temps of 175-178 in cool weather, and 178-185 in hot weather. These are "going-down-the-road" temps. Sitting in traffic with ac on, temps go higher, but usually not above 210.

Before the 160 and tune, I got temps of 210-230 sitting, and 192 -200 going down the freeway.

I didn't monitor oil temps before, but now they are 195-205 for normal driving and will creep up from there for spirited driving.

Like others said, make sure you clean your radiator/condenser/vacuum filter (lol).

Also be sure you aren't losing any coolant. It can drip out through the weep hold of a failing water pump, or steam out through a small leak. It can even leak as steam if the coolant resv. cap is not sealing tightly.

my temps run just like that - in the same HOT Houston area.
I used to think the 215-220 was getting too high but it never
goes above that so I guess its not a problem. I Do clean the
radiator/condensor about twice a year.

I installed a 160 degree thermostat when I did the heads and cam. I'll check the radiator for any junk. Thanks.

\ also consider adding Red Line Water wetter and getting your fan temps lowered. In South Carolina ( not exactly a cold climate), during the summer, my running temps are usually about 90 degress below ambient. In heavy traffic for about 15 - 20 minutes the coolant temp will go upto 210-215, trani temp will go to 195-200.

Thanks for all the inputs. I'm still trying to decide if I should take the car on a road trip tomorrow or take the wifes Honda

Well I'm back from my road trip and the car ran at about 195 on the freeway there and back. Around town in Twin Falls Id. I still saw high temps ( over 220 ). I don't have any leaks. I have a new 160 degree thermostat in it so I'm baffeled. I have a trans cooler mounted to the front of the radiator could that be it? The system is pretty simple I just don't know where to start. I have noticed a lot of condensation water from the A/C when I stop. I might try and have the collent system flushed and go from there.

Hmmm...so what is the intrinsic difference in the cooling system operation........between highway and in town driving?

The amount of air being forced through the radiator. I have checked to see if the fans are working and they are.

I Put 1" spacers under the bottom mounts of the trans cooler. There was a lot of junk between the cooler and radiator. It didn't help much. Lowered the water temp to about 215 around town. What's next I'm not sure.
