I'm finally getting my first alignment done on my C5, and was wondering what specs would be ideal for my car. The car is mainly street driven (spirited driving), but I like to go to the drag strip every now and then. I'd like to have specs that would help with the car feeling more planted and responsive, and still be able to get great launches at the drag strip.
I'm running 315/30/18 (11.5" rear rims) Mickey Thompson DR's. I just had C6Z06 sway bars installed with metal end-links. My car is slammed also.
Check the pfadt web site. They have a good range of specs on what you are running with: street tires, street tires for occasional track use, street tires for track use, race tires for track use, etc.
I printed it out, circled the spec for my track day and gave it to my tire shop. After I got back from the track, they changed the alignment back to stock. If you buy a 3 year alignment package available from most national tire dealers, you can have your alignment done as many times as you want.
I had my wheels set pretty flat camber wise, like around 0.3 degrees. I found the inside edges, especially on the front, was wearing excessively and I had around 1.2 degree before. It's a trade off, you can go aggressive but the tire life will suffer. I never really noticed much difference in handling and I'm not seeing the inside edge wear I had before. You have to decide where you want to go with the camber.
Do get them to keep the camber and caster equal on each side. None of this tollerance of plus or minus 0.5 degrees. There have been a number of posts of people with a pull using "in spec" alignments that went away when the side to side was equaled out.
