Default Overheating

The car is a 2003 Z with a D1SC Procharger.

The car ran perfectly 2 days ago on a 200 mile trip with stop and go traffic. This morning, I drove it down the road and literally within 2 miles, it was pegging 280 degrees. I immediately turned it off and let it cool. I drove the car straight home and checked things out. Here is what I have done:

I checked for any obvious leaks and found none

I felt both the upper and lower radiator hoses and they were both hot

I replaced the thermostat and refilled the reservoir with coolant. As I was attempting to burp the system of air, coolant began boiling out of the reservoir.

I have performed the basic blown head gasket checks and everything checks out well - There is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. The car is not smoking at idle and I cannot smell any gas/oil in the coolant.

Any input would be great.

Thanks

You didn't mention the fans- are they turning on?

Did you check for debris in the A/C condenser and/or radiator? Mighta picked up a plastic bag or something.

Yup, I checked and everything is clear.

Could a bad radiator cap cause these issues?

well, I was out messing around with the car in the driveway - Heres the latest observation:

While the car is idling, you can fully pinch the upper radiator hose and you cannot feel fluid running through it.

With that said, Id assume I would need a new waterpump and or radiator power flush? What are some known clogging points on these cars? Thanks

Have you ever washed the rad? My P1SC car had heating issues at 25k miles. I did replace the the rad cap but I also invented a tool out of old brake line.

This was a NV car so I was quite surprised at the amount of dirt that came out.

Neat - My radiator area is clean though, that was the first thing I checked

Take the cap off at night when the engine is cool.
In the morning, see if the coolant level has dropped.
Being just a little low on coolant can make it overheat.

Is it possible for a water pump to fail and there be no coolant leakage from the water pump?

My 84 hit 300 degrees
Will take the shroud off and look for debris
I bought a switch to turn fan on manually

Default 1984 corvette overheats

Is there a way to keep cool

I hit 300 degrees last week

What does the underside of the front end look like?
Maybe I'm missing a part of the scoop

Chuck - check out the C4 tech section for answers to your 84's problem. I'll bet you need to pull everything out, replace hoses, clean the condenser and radiator. C4's suck EVERYTHING up from the road. You can't clean it out from the bottom, have to pull the shroud and everything to get to it.

Yes. If the impeller breaks or seizes up, you won't get a leak and you will over heat.
