Does anyone see any problem with drilling and tapping some holes into the frame rail just ahead of the right front hood hinge? I am thinking of mounting my catch can up in that area as I think it will be much cooler and supposedly better. Thanks for the input.
If we consider our engines as large compressors, then the most logical place to trap oil and water is away from any heat source - the engine (or compressor) itself. Crankcase gasses can easily reach 150 degrees or more after just 15 minutes of driving. I know this because I t'd in a temperature probe to a HOBO data logger to determine how hot the gasses were getting. Even a small compressor will produce air that is this hot.
Now, taking that hot air that contains oil, water, and even unburned fuel and routing through a catch can that is positioned in a cooler place can only encourage condensation of water and oil into liquid form by forcing the gasses to contact cooler surfaces.
Therefore, keep your catch can away from heat; your intake will thank you for it.
Here's a procedure that shows you where I mounted my catch can:
Thanks for the reply Dave, I pm'd you too. Would you believe that I followed your directions for making my own catch can per your instructions. I had a friend make the larger aluminum receiver per your drawing. I have been sitting on it for awhile trying to figure out where to install it. I just thought of installing it at the serial number this morning. Do great minds think alike?????. I was thinking of running the hoses in the gap next to the radiator under the plastic shroud rather than over the top. What do you think of that?
Without looking, I think it'd be okay if you ensure that neither hose can get pinched or cut. It would certainly look a bit neater than my setup. If you do it that way, maybe you can throw some pics out there for us to see?

I was prompted by Dave68's testing, etc to do this very thing several years ago. It has worked out well.
The only slight difference I had to do is slant my can backwards at about a 30 degree angle due to it's size. My can is an AMW unit and is larger. I found that if you route the two hoses outboard of, and alongside the hood hinge, it will not chafe or interfere with the hood hinge.
Well I completed the install of my Conceptual Polymer Catch Can. Thanks for the help Dave. Spilled a little blood (look above the CA on the radiator shroud) but other wise went well.
Perhaps it's just my monitor, but it appears that the zip tie is actually under the clamp for the throttle body.....if so, a poor choice...and bad practice.

Its actually around the tail of the clamp sticking out of the worm gear. Why would it be a poor choice/bad practice?
Perhaps lucky thinks it might be under the actual "band" part of the clamp. Being that the wire tie is just pulled up against the tail. there should be no problem.

You're right Dave68.....like I said.....damn monitor...
....time to treat yourself to a 1920 x 1200 dpi 24-inch Dell monitor like the one I have at work. It is no less than incredible and makes my 19-inch Viewsonic at home seem small by comparison. Also, you can typically zoom in by holding the ctrl button while spinning the mouse scrolling wheel.

Right. I have dual 24's at work. It's nice, because I can use ProE on one, and spreadsheets/email/net meeting, etc. on the other. I need to break down an get rid of these old CRT's I have at home.
