I have been having a strange starting problem for several years. When I put the key in and turn it I get nothing. This happens once every six months to a year. After 5 to 15 minuetes I put the key in again and it starts right up with nothing wrong. The battery currently is good just replaced it and it turns over quickly. I tried cleaning the resistor on the key but that did nothing. Is this a solenoid or starter problem from heat?
Please advise.

Since this is a biannual event, it makes it hard to troubleshoot on the spot. I would inspect the connections at the starter. Might be worth pulling the ignition switch, and inspecting the contacts. If the key is an issue, you should have codes to reflect that, and a security light that does not go out.

Could be poor contacts on key pellet. Try some contact cleaner directly in the ignition switch.
