Were the C1214 EBCM issues a problem on all C5 model years? My '02 started having some issues last year (according the previous owner). Because it was the original battery, I replaced the battery and was code free for about 2 months. Now I have a continual C1214 code.
The reason I'm asking is because I've found a module out of a '99 C5 locally for $100. It's out of a totalled car so I'm unsure if there were code issues.
If this code wasn't common on the earlier C5 models, I might roll the dice and swap in this part. If it an issue on those years also, then the unit is going out to the ABSFIXER.
When you take out the EBCM check the pump motor circuits in the BPMV for any connection to ground (case). If there is anything less than infinite resistance to ground the BPMV more than likely caused the EBCM to fail and it needs replacement as well. Its not as simple as sending the EBCM away and everything is fine.
Here is step 3 of the C1214 diagnostic:
3
Disconnect the pump motor harness pigtail connector of the BPMV.
Measure the resistance between each pump motor control circuit and the housing of the BPMV at the pump motor harness pigtail connector of the BPMV.
Does the DMM display the specified value? Over Limit If yes go to Step 5. If no go to Step 4.
If it doesn't measure over limit (infinity) then step 4 calls for the replacement of both the EBCM and the BPMV.
