Long drive from Texas to Ohio. Engine heat running 194 -205 with average of 199 to 201 with AC on.
Tranny flushed and filled 10,000 miles ago.
Tranny A4 runs 187 -205, but before when climbing hills (outside air 98+) temp would go to 201 -205 then drop back down to 194 or so, almost in line with engine temp. Now it goes slowly to 201 and stays there. Is this to hot? Having rad flushed and filled and tranny oil level checked. Cleaned rad and condenser out yesterday and got out minimal crud.
Any ideas?
205 is nothing. I was heading back from my friends place over the weekend and got caught in some nasty traffic. It was 105 degrees outside and the trans temp hit 237 degrees.
Nothing to worry about until the fluid temp. reaches 240-250 degrees.
Try using Dexron VI on your next fluid and filter change. It has greater resistance to oxidation and thermal breakdown, when higher operating temperatures occur.
Anything over 200 causes premature wear and the higher the temp the more wear... You may need an additional tranny cooler... This info came from Rodney at RPM transmission.. Hes the tranny guy on this forum and knows the 4L60e as well as anyone in the business. My 99 A4 ran 210-220 in the summer time.. It went south on me at around 40k miles

Having the coolant drained flushed and replaced and having the tranny flushed. Added a cooler and Had the tranny done 15k ago just to be on the safe side will get it done again. Off to PA for 6 months and don't want any trouble while on the road. Get a bit paranoid when the tranny gets up to 200 as it has always run max 185 or so. The temps up here are pretty warm this year.
Put in "trans cooler" under search and go back several months for threads. I put a B&M under the drivers headlight. It works great. Figure about $500.00 for everything. You will have to fab up simple brackets and go to several different places to get what you need for a clean install. I'm FI so I could not put in front of the radiator. If you are going to boost your vette later then I suggest under the drivers headlight. Just make sure you triple check for clearance when the headlight retracts. Good Luck! Rod

Holy Krap!! you spent $500 on a trans cooler? One of the biggest B&M coolers is $177 with fittings and ss hose. What all did you buy?
I had a RPM transmission put in this summer and RPM recommended a B&M cooler with the fan on it. This keeps the trans fluid about 20 degrees cooler than the water temp reguardless of out side temp. The RPM transmission is outstanding I just love it.
If you can buy a B&M supercooler #70297, 14 feet of braided line, all the proper fittings, adapters, wiring, loom material, and brackets and bolts for less than $200, then my hats off to you! Don't forget tax and shipping. Rod

Plus insulation costs or your time to install. that is up to if not over $500 total
